The Study of Cultural, Social and Economic Problems of Yazd University Non-Local Students

Abstract

A large number of People are studying in our country and the majority of them are studying at non-local universities. Some of them may not be able to adjust themselves to the socio-cultural environments where they study. Thus, they are subject to certain psychological problems and cannot continue their studies properly. That’s why the present research has picked up the social, cultural and economic problems of the non-local students of Yazd University. The information has been collected by survey method. The data have been analyzed using SPSS statistical method. This research has divided the provinces of the country in to four areas, provinces of Semnan and Isfahan, northern provinces, southern provinces, and western provinces. The general findings of the research indicate that all the respondents have confirmed the following points:
1. The incongruity of non-local students with Yazd culture (first theory), the shortage of cultural, recreational, and sport facilities (second theory), costs of living and shortage of student financial facilities (third theory). These play an important role in creating cultural and social difficulties.
2. The student selection from similar geographic areas (fourth theory), the recreational picnics, question and answer meetings with university officials, and providing cultural, recreational and sport facilities for students play an important role in decreasing social and cultural problems.
Also, the regional findings of the research indicate that the respondents in all areas have confirmed the first, second and fifth theories, but the respondents in the first and second areas have confirmed the third theory only, and the respondents in the first area have confirmed the forth theory only.
