Abstract
The present article studies "Pragmatism" as a contemporary philosophy. First, pragmatism is defined. Then its rise in Europe and the United States is investigated. Certain factors such as "ontology", "mankind", "social values", "ethics and religion" and "general education" are studied in the light of pragmatism as set by its founders including Charles Sanders Piers, William James and John Dewes. Finally the criticisms against pragmatism are presented to help the reader further understand the issue.
