Abstract
Totemism as a kind of believing in souls, was accounted for by primitive man as a way to communicate with super nature. This kind of belief has had a wide reflection in epic works and it can be studied in a way to shed light on better recognition of the Old Iranian mythology. Among these, the story of the missing of Bahram’s scourge in Shahnameh is a remarkable and significant story. Accordingly, the tasearcher believes that scourge, which was used as a fighting tool in wars and a punishing tools in courts, has had a special holiness for old Iranian people. In this article, the researcher tries to study the missing of the Bahram’s scourge from the view point of totemism and shows that the scourge was as a part of Bahram’s belief and he risked to support his beliefs.
