‘Heroes of Stalingrad’ by Shahryar is a relatively long poem that can be viewed from different dimensions. However, it has remained far from the interest of contemporary literary scholars. This article intends to use a trans-textual approach to criticize and follow a new reading of the this poem. Before entering into the discussion, firstly, we have raised the reason for Shahryar's and critics' conscious neglect of this poem, and then we have examined the intertextual relationships and hidden texts in this work according to Gérard Genet's five axes and in a descriptive-analytical way.
In this trans-textual reading, we came to the conclusion that ‘Heroes of Stalingrad’ has greatly benefited from the poetry of previous poets. The source of Shahryar's inspiration in this poem is the Iranian epic tradition. The central metaphor of the dragon, which is used in this poem for the German army, strongly links the spirit of the poem to Ferdowsi's Shahnameh. Despite this, Shahryar has not achieved much success in trying to imitate the epic tone. In the creation of this poem, Shahryar also considered the relatively new epic poems of Vahid Dastgardi and Malek Al-Shaara Bahar after the constitution, as well as several works written or written by leftists in the middle of the twenties about the Battle of Stalingrad. Shahryar composed this poem under the influence of the leftist atmosphere after the end of World War II, and until the end of his life, he avoided giving any explanation about it.
