The Teaching Effects of Story of Jamshid and Khorshid ‘on the Psychological
Development of Children and Adolescents

Abstract
This article studies the effects that the Story of Jamshid and Khorshid of
Salman Savoji may have on children and adolescents’ psychological
development. Folk stories as one of the popular and prolific types
of genre
in the literature of every nation are of a high prestige among the people.
The research aims to examine the effects that the story may have on the
natural growth of the children and which indirectly helps them to handle
their internal contradicti
ons. It is indentified that these kinds of stories may
be included in the scope of fairy tales which have the capacity to address
the children and represent their internal conflicts. Regarding the capacity of
the present story in terms of psychological ana
lysis, it is examined from the
view points of some of the famous psychologists like: Sigmund Freud, Bruno
Bettelheim and Gusto Yung. The story is about the adventurous trip of an
adolescent boy who was separated from his family and entered a world too
frig
htening and dangerous to catch his dream and find his love. The story is
the manifestation of an adolescent trying to be independent in an effort to
determine his identity. His fighting with the animal is a representation of
fighting with his emotional ten
dencies. His struggle to obtain spiritual guide
and kind fairy shows the existence of moral conscience in this way. In fact,
using his bravery, knowledge and moral value, Jamshid reached his final
aims and got married Princess and ruled East and West.
