Fables have been a tool for expressing moral, mystical, and social concepts. As the subject area changes, the elements of the fable also change accordingly. Character is one of the elements that has changed. This article seeks to answer two questions. The first question is how the lion is personified in fables, and the second question is what changes it has undergone in the course of history. To answer this question, 26 selected fables from books from the 3rd to 9th centuries AH in which the lion is present were selected and examined using the opinions of Raymon Kanan. Raymon Kanan is one of the narratologists who analyzes character in his theories and speaks of various methods of characterization. The research was conducted in a descriptive-analytical manner and with a library method. The results show that characterization was carried out both directly and indirectly. In the indirect method, the components of action, speech, and environment were used in order of frequency. In terms of its appearance, this animal always plays a role in the story in its true form; but physical disability resulting from old age, illness, and incompetence affects its actions. These factors play a role in the formation of events and the narrative flow of the story. The lion is seen in the roles of the king (22 stories), the mother (3 stories), and its animal role with human characteristics (2 stories), such as speech. In the course of history,
